Coastal path

Coastal path

Saint-Jean-de-Luz is one of the starting points for the coastal path (Sentier du Littoral) created by the Pyrénées-Atlantiques Regional Council.
The path links Bidart with Hendaye, focusing on three different environments (urban, mixed and natural landscapes), with uninterrupted views of the sea and an emphasis on discovery and learning. The path runs for 25km and has eight access points: one each in Bidart, Guéthary, Saint-Jean-de-Luz and Ciboure, two in Urrugne and two in Hendaye.
Six interpretation points cover a variety of different themes, including  surfing, the Basques and the ocean, coastal landscapes, fishing, the bay of Saint-Jean-de-Luz/Ciboure, and geology.Baie de Saint-Jean-de-Luz vue du sentier

Useful tips

Visitors are advised to walk the route in a north-south direction (Bidart-Hendaye) to benefit fully from the spectacular mountain views. Bikes are not permitted on the path. Pets are not allowed on some sections of the path, in particular where it runs close to the beach. It is feasible to park your car at one end of the path, walk the route, then return to your point of departure using the public bus or train network.
