Basque culture

The Basque Country has always enjoyed strong oral and social traditions. An integral part of the region’s culture, Basque singing and music encompass many of the traditions of our land. Within these traditions we can identify the history of our ancestors, which have often developed from various aspects of daily life from bygone days, most notably in the trials of strength known as Force Basque. Another activity played here from a very young age, Basque pelota is an incredibly popular sport played against a wall, on a trinquet court and in jai-alai arenas. The Basques also like to dance. Like singing, dancing has become a real social phenomenon and is a fundamental feature of Basque culture and a true mode of social expression.
