The gates of Spain. 20km from Saint-Jean-de-Luz, Spain hands you his arms. Another culture, other assets, the southern Basque Country is a mandatory detour during your vacation in Saint-Jean-de-Luz.



"Urdazubi" has a medieval character, perfectly blend past and present, you will find among other stately homes, the Monastery of "San Salvador", the Millennium House of "Axular" and its cloister red stone, mill, oak tree symbol of the Basque Country, the prehistoric caves of Ikaburua the picturesque neighborhood of "Alkerdi" with its beautiful farms and chapel of Saint-Etienne.

  • For lovers of walking, a promenade connects Urdazubi Sare through Zugarramurdi. Follow the blue horse symbol ("pottok" in Basque) throughout your journey.


Zugarramurdi Urdax is like a typical Spanish village. Upon arrival, we discovered the church, the house Dutaria and a little later, the hospital houses the Museum of modern witchcraft . It is customary to hear that the oldest houses in the heart of the village, framed by red stones and beautifully flowering, were inhabited by witches.

Hondarribia ou Fontarabie



Hondarribia is famous for its "tapas" and its nightlife. It is a coastal town fishermen, Basque houses colorful and flowery balconies. Discovering Hondarribia is a real pleasure! The old town, perched on a hillside, surrounded by walls is impressive 16th century and dominated by the castle of Charles Quint.

You can go there by boat shuttle from Hendaye.

San Sebastian

San Sebastian is 30 minutes from Saint-Jean-de-Luz. Thanks to its history, its architecture French influence and traditional culture Basque, San Sebastian appears as one of the most modern cities of the country. She is very lively, and it is surrounded by beautiful landscapes and famous beaches.

In the old town, you will find the charming houses and Basque cuisine. The city is also converted into a major cultural center with the construction of the convention center and the science museum and the Museum Chillida-Leku.

It is possible to go to San Sebastian by train from Hendaye with the "topo".

Bilbao and the Guggenheim Museum are 1:30 to Saint-Jean-de-Luz. Bilbao has developed around the river Nervion in a valley surrounded by mountains.

Since the installation of the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao is a few years past a picture of gray industrial city to that of a modern and dynamic city which competes with the major European capitals.
