Erromardie and Acotz are located to the north of Saint-Jean-de-Luz.
These places are perfect for enjoying the natural wild side of the beaches, the coastline and the “laid back” atmosphere.
Sunset and surfing
The districts of Erromardie and Acotz have kept their natural character. Only 1.5 km from the historic city centre, you can easily walk from one district to the other along the coastal path. The view from Sainte-Barbe hill with the Grande Plage and the Rhune Mountain in the background is simply breathtaking.
The landscape alternates here between high cliffs and natural beaches where surfers in search of perfect waves meet people looking for quieter beaches than the one in the town centre.
When the sun goes down, it's the perfect meeting place to enjoy a beautiful sunset over the ocean. Many bistros and beach restaurants welcome you in a laid-back atmosphere to drink a mojito or dine looking at the ocean.

The Botanical Garden
Spotlight on Basque coast vegetation
The Botanical Garden in Saint-Jean-de-Luz was designed in the 1990s by Anne-Elizabeth Wolf, landscape architect and botanist.
Managed using eco-friendly techniques, the Botanical Garden offers its visitors a walk through the natural environments of the Basque coast: a coastal pine forest, an Atlantic oak grove, dunes, wetlands, maritime moors, cliffs...
In addition, many exotic plants that have adapted to Basque coastal gardens form the fabric of a maze of botanical families and plants from the five continents.
An educational garden
Belonging to the French network of Botanical Gardens, this Botanical Garden brings together documented living collections of plants for the purposes of scientific research, conservation, exhibition and education. Thus, the different collections and natural environments of this Garden are presented with standardised scientific information (labels, signs).
The Botanical Garden in Saint-Jean-de-Luz has an educational purpose and offers activities for all types of public throughout the year: guided tours, workshops, exhibitions and conferences, nature outings, exchange of plants...
