On the road to Spain, 3 km from St-Jean-de-Luz, Château d'Urtubie has belonged to the same family since 1341. Fortified and enlarged, it tells the story of 6 centuries of Basque history. Louis XI stayed here in 1463; Louis XIV made the estate a viscounty in 1654; Soult and then Wellington passed through during the Napoleonic Wars. Château d'Urtubie is now a listed historic monument.
The 17th-century chapel, the 18th-century orangery and the 18th-century park and English gardens complete the site's heritage. For families, a treasure hunt in the park, equipped with 2 smartphones.
