Saint-Jean-de-Luz and the Basque Coast villages: Ciboure, Urrugne and Guethary.
The historic centre of Saint-Jean-de-Luz mingles history, heritage, beach, strolls, shopping, activities and events.
A wealth of discoveries to be made by strolling to the fishing port, or wandering along the pedestrian shopping streets and sea front…
Nestled in a hollow in the bay, on the left bank of the River Nivelle and intrinsically linked to the sea, the Basque traditions of this village are firmly anchored in its illustrious past.
Urrugne village centreThe village of Urrugne is fortunate to stretch from the ocean and Basque Corniche cliffs to the first mountains of the Pyrénées. The village has kept its traditions and typical architecture, and offers many opportunities for multiple outdoor activities.
© Teddy Bear The Basque CornicheThe Basque Corniche is a unique natural site.
Running along ten or so kilometres, it stretches from Ciboure to Hendaye with a large section lying in the Urrugne municipality. You can walk along the coastal footpath, enjoying the stunning view from the high flysch cliffs and discovering its wonderful features.
The neighbourhood of Socoa is situated both in Ciboure and Urrugne. It is a very lively quarter with its beach, shops and restaurants.
Egiategia winery set up business in this quarter close to its subsea fermentation tanks immersed in Saint-Jean-de-Luz Bay.
The Fort of Socoa overlooks the Bay.
To the north of Saint-Jean-de-Luz, these neighbourhoods have kept their “laid back” atmosphere with their beautiful beaches ideal for surfing the ocean waves and small sea-front bistros and restaurants to enjoy watching the sun go down.
© Yoni GuétharyGuéthary, a traditional village situated between Bidart and Saint-Jean-de-Luz, is a haven of peace on the doorstep of Basque coastal towns.
An art of living that embraces nature, tradition and the “good life” at the edge of the ocean on the water’s edge awaits you on every street corner and detour down Guéthary’s narrow streets.
